Christopher Street Day or Gay Pride Cologne

Today was Christopher Street Day in Cologne, Germany or Gay Pride. It was so much fun. The parade was long, it was hot, there were lots of people, we had lots of fun, etc....

Here are some impressions:

Hey! We were there too! Here is a pic (on flickr) of my father-in-law with a float in the background. My daughter loved the music and the pink everywhere. Cologne always seems packed with people.

Is that in honor of Christopher Street in NYC?

Yes, it is in reference to Christopher Street in NYC's Greenwich Village--the beginning of the modern Gay Rights Movement. Thanks to a few brave drag queens standing up to the unlawful raids by the NYPD on the gay clubs, namely at Stonewall.
