My first German language class

Well, today I went to my first German language class. It went well. It is for beginners so it was vaguely familiar. I think over time I will pick it up quickly. Of course, as you can imagine, it easier to learn a language living and breathing it all day. I have two other students in my class. There is a guy from the Czech Republic and a lady from all places--San Francisco! It is great to have her in my class. She moved to Gemany to be with her boyfriend--another American in Germany for love. She and I will go out for lunch someday after class. What a weird coincidence, huh? I travel all the way to Duesseldorf and meet a fellow San Franciscan in my class. My school is only about six blocks from my current apartment. Now that I am on the subject of apartments...Our apartment is not exactly what we expected. The bathroom and the kitchen are smaller than the ones the agency sent us photos of. So, needless to say, we are looking now for a more permanent, unfurnished apartment. The neighborhood is not the best, but will do for now. We are now going to look in a neighborhood north of Old Town. That is suppose to be a better area of town. I am going to begin checking the internet for unfurnished apartments and after my language courses I will go and look at the apartments that I identify online. This time we won´t be signing a lease before we see it first. Oh well, at least our current apartment is furnished and centrally located. I will be posting more later along with lots of photos I have taken. We should have our internet connection on by Wednesday. One last note: today it is sunny, not a cloud in the sky. However, unfortunately, it is still cold....Bis bald.

Ah strange coincidence about the lady but a welcomed one. I met someone who grew up in the same city I did who was living in Switzerland. We actually both moved back to north america and she is back in San Francisco. Ironic..

Being in the city is so much better than trusting the internet. It's a sad truth that people try to play up their apartments more than what is actually the truth. Oh well...

I'm sure you guys will find something you really want.

The number of 'love immigrants' grows and grows...It makes the world seem a little small when you run into 'locals' a half a world away doesn't it?

That seems to be a good idea. Pempelfort, Golzheim and parts of Derendorf are very recommandable.

the gold rule of travelling:

take care of those who cross your path and you will be taken care of.

so good to hear everything is going so well. too bad with the apartment but those rental photos always look a lot larger than what they actually are. what could you have done though? a place is a place. looking forward to the pics.

Hello my favorite Jimmy ever...

I am loving reading your transplant and settling journey to Germany! It makes me ironically feel closer, yet then I remember that you are SOOoooo far away now! Well, as usual, that's more a state of mind and you are as close as ever in more ways than even when we lived together, LOL.

Good luck with the German lessons. I am now, for the first time, studying Spanish. I have no idea why I haven't done this before now, considering I have lived in the SouthWest and even more so because I live in New York. Oh, and even more of a reason is because many of my boyfriends over time seem to be of Latin/Hispanic descent, so I just have to give in now. It's been fun to learn and I can't wait until I am really good at it.

As for your synchronicity of finding the SF woman; well, when choices are being made that are making you happy, it's no wonder at all that things fall into place, synchronicities happen, and all the other good stuff...

I love you and miss you.

Tell yer man I say HI!

xoxo

Yep, it's a small world all right.

Nice that your German class is so small - the one to one attention will make it easier for you to learn, I'm sure.

Too bad about the apartment but I'm sure you'll find something more suitable soon. At least you're here and that's all that matters, right?

As for the weather, expect it to stay pretty cold until...oh...about April. When it will start raining. :-)

That's great that your German class is so small. And having a buddy in there is even better.

Bites about your apartment. Hope you find something more suitable very soon.

Viel Glück!

That is pretty funny about your classmate from San Francisco--I once bumped into an American on the train, and it turns out he had I had lived in the same place in the States before moving here.

Seems like you have found your German signature phrase, too, huh?

Jen and I will report back with you once the re-settling into work here is over... I am currently working 14-hour-days, but we would love to meet you here!
