In Germany

Well, I made it to Germany! My flight was fine and on time. We do not have an internet connection in our new apartment yet, but hopefully we will by the end of the week. In order to get telephone service in Germany you must first have a local bank account. We should have the account number even today, but I am not sure how long it will take for them to turn on the phone and the DSL connection.
After I arrived Saturday night, New Year´s Eve we went to a party my partner´s friend was having. We had a great time. I will upload some photos of the party and the area I live in once our home internet service is connected. I hope everyone is well. I will post again soon.

You're new to me, James, but your story is not! You don't want to know how long it took us to get an internet connection in Hannover last spring! I'll just cross my fingers for you that it'll be like a speeding bullet.

I'll be joining you in Germany next week, as part of my back-n-forth, here-n-there life with my own partner!

Happy New Year! (And thanks for your kind comment a few days back!)

Welcome to Germany James!

I hope that you have a pleasant time here and just a reminder ... don't do what I did and constantly note how very different "here" is than "there", leastways not 47 times per minute :-)

Herzlich Willkommen in Deutschland! Hope you will like it and if you have any questions, that only natives can answer, I will try and help you.
Good luck with the DSL...

Thank you, everyone!
Prairie girl: I was doing that on the first day, but I have decided to avoid these observations. A lot of things are different, but hey, I am not in America any more so I have to expect it. :) It sure is cold, but I will get use to that, too.

Actually, I'm afraid that you probably won't (I still haven't). ;-)

Oh the wonders of modern time. At least you still get to the internet when you don't have your own connection. That was so nice for me once I arrived in 2002. Patiently waiting for more. :)
