M and I have applied for tickets to two games for the 2006 FIFA World Cup: Italy vs. USA on June 17th in Kaiserslautern and Ecuador vs. Germany on June 20th in Berlin. I hope we get them. I have never been to a European soccer game. I hear the crowd gets crazy and the games are extremely wild and fun. Hopefully we will get some tickets...I will keep you posted. Here is the email we received:

I'll cross my fingers, but I am not too optimistic.

But now that you are a Düsseldorfer, you should go to a Fortuna match as soon as possible.
Support your local heroes ;-)

If you get tickets, play the lottery immediately because it will mean you're the two luckest guys in the world.

You know that really is a good idea for you to go see a Fortuna game. You know, get the feel for the game and the crowd. The games are a lot of fun.

even though going to a soccer game would certainly be a lot of fun i'm not that sure about Fortuna... maybe you better consider Schalke or BVB (which is my favorite team).
there you'll probably find the atmosphere you can expect at the world cup.

Good luck with the tickets but I wouldn't hold me breath. Either way, make it to ANY football match you can, even a local one... it's a sight to behold. I wrote about the Spanish and football a while back if you wanna have a look (

I put in for some too for the second time. I did in the first round, but didn't get them.
